Before & Aftercare

For the best possible results, please follow these instructions leading up to your cosmetic tattoo appointment and during healing.

Pre-Care

For best possible results, please ensure you follow the pre-care steps below.

4 weeks before
  • Lip filler prior to lip tattooing needs to be performed 4+ weeks before your appointment.
  • Avoid resurfacing peels such as Cosmelan up to 8 weeks before.
2 weeks before
  • Avoid skin treatments such as skin needling, peels & lasers.
  • Best to avoid strong skincare around the area (e.g. Vitamin A, retinol, retinoids, any prescription creams).
  • Anti-wrinkle injections must be done 2 weeks prior. They’re fine after the procedure — keep your touch-up appointment timing in mind.
  • If you suffer from cold sores and are getting lip blush, start antivirals as a preventative. Speak to your chemist (often a strong dose of lysine) or your doctor if you break out regularly.
1 week before
  • Avoid sun, fake tan, retinols or active products in the area.
  • Now is the time to tint your brows if you need to.
  • If you suffer from cold sores and are getting lip blush, start antivirals as a preventative (chemist/doctor advice as above).
24 hours before
  • Avoid alcohol, fish oils, vitamins and Nurofen.
  • Save inspiration photos of brows/lips to show on the day.
Day of appointment
  • Please avoid caffeine, energy drinks and pre-workout for 2 hours prior.

Aftercare

Aftercare is essential — healing and retention is 50% proper aftercare.

Healing timeline

Healing may take 1–2 weeks, however it can take 4–8 weeks for true colour to settle. We suggest waiting 4 weeks for brow/eyeliner perfection and 8 weeks for lip blush.

What to expect

  • Swelling / redness
  • Tenderness in the area
  • Flakiness / dryness
  • The area may become itchy
  • Colour appears bolder, then softens (often losing 30–40%)
  • Patchiness during healing is normal

Aftercare for your new cosmetic tattoo

You’ll be provided with a complimentary aftercare pack on the day, and Ashlee will explain exactly how to care for the area.

Expect darker/bolder colour for the first few days, then flaking/peeling over the next week. It can look lighter around 1–2 weeks, then gradually deepen as it settles over 4–12 weeks.

Avoid until healed
  • No sun bathing, sun beds, saunas, excessive heat or sweating
  • No swimming in chlorine or salt water
  • No waxing or tinting in the area

Your cosmetic tattoo appointment isn’t complete without your perfection appointment — it’s a 2-step process for best results.

Long-term care

Cosmetic tattooing is semi-permanent and fades over time depending on pigment choice, skin type, method, area, sun exposure and aftercare.

Refresh timing is typically 12–24 months for brows and 1–3 years for eyeliner and lip blush. Refresh prices start from $395.

  • Sun fades and can change the appearance — wear sunscreen, hats and eye protection.
  • Avoid full sun exposure to your face for long periods.
  • Avoid exfoliating/active ingredients on the area: Vitamin A/retinol, AHA/BHA, bleaching agents, chemical peels, laser and IPL.
  • Limit brow tinting to once a month.
